Taking Home the Best of New Orleans
March 1, 2010 – Home – A foil bag of instant Hurricane stares at me from a dark corner of the kitchen cupboard. It’s been four weeks since I came back with it, ready for wild days back in Manila. I’ve been trying to convince my brothers to try it, but I’m secretly happy they haven’t.
Streamlining my baggage for trans-pacific flights meant quicker turnovers at immigration checkpoints, but also very little space to stash souvenirs. I wanted to buy decadent knickknacks for my room, but opted for insta-mix versions of some Big Easy staples - Hurricane drinks and Cafe Du Monde beignets. The beignet mix was a dead ringer for my 3am guilty pleasure. I haven’t tried the Hurricane mix, but I may be just as happy keeping it in that dark corner – a reminder of my trip to Pat O’Brien’s at the Jackson Brewery.
